We Have Voice: Code of Conduct

Music of Reality is very proud to announce that we are adopting the We Have Voice Collective Code of Conduct. This code promotes zero tolerance for harassment of any kind, including but not limited to sexual harassment and bullying. The commitments and definitions herein promote the creation and strengthening of safe(r) spaces that uphold the equitable treatment of all people regardless of their various identities and positionalities, including gender identity, race, age, ability, ethnicity, culture, immigration status, sexual orientation and identity, class position and economic background, and religious belief and affiliation.

We are immensely grateful to the We Have Voice Collective for so meticulously crafting this code and the open letter, and for their continuing efforts to create equitable workplaces in the performing arts.

Our Season Fundraiser

Well, the cat's out of the bag... Your friendly neighborhood music and science concert series has launched a fundraiser! We're very excited about our upcoming season, and we hope you are too.

Our first show on Oct. 12 will feature real-life coral reefs (yes, they will be there!) and a cadre of amazing musicians and scientists and composers.  Read more about our season here.

These shows are such a labor of love and collaboration, and they simply wouldn't happen without the energy of our collaborators and community and donors.

So, send us some of your pocket change if you're able!  Every teeny bit helps. Donations are tax-deductible, and will first go into the pockets of our artists and collaborators.

Thank you thank you thank you ❤️

2018/19 Season Announcement + our new marketing intern, Carly!

We've just announced our 2018/19 season!!  We invite you to join us for Reef Music, Computed Futures, Shadows of Exoplanets, and Cellular Dance.  Each of these events is a collaboration between researchers and musicians - interweaving lecture and music in live performance.

Our first event is on October 12th with "Reef Music"!  Marine Biologist Sarah Davies of Boston University, the Marvento Duo with cellist Olivia J. P. Harris, David Ibbett, and Sophia Subbayya Vastek will be sharing narratives of coral reefs, their plight against climate change and evolutionary future.

Tickets: artful.ly/musicofreality

ALSO, we are very excited to welcome Carly Ristuccia, who will be joining us this fall as our marketing and communications intern!  She recently graduated from Plymouth State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts and Entertainment Management. Carly immediately impressed us when she told us that she designed her own degree to include courses in business, marketing, graphic design, art, and music.  We're thrilled!

Website Updates & Looking Ahead

David and I have been spending a few intense days together in Troy, NY this week working on our exciting upcoming season, playing games (did you know David is a huge game aficionado??), and drinking wine.  It's been such a lovely and fun few days, and we're very excited to announce our upcoming season so soon!

In the meantime, check out some of the updates that we've made on our website, especially our new mission page with clarified thoughts and hopes for the project.  And our updated collaborators page with our amazing and inspiring friends who have worked with us on past events!

Stay tuned for our upcoming season announcement!

We started a teeny tiny podcast!

A tiny podcast with big ideas, in which we highlight our collaborators and let them tell you about things they find very cool or exciting.  Navigate over to our podcast page to listen to our first episode.  It's from Matthew Kleban, a theoretical physicist and the director of the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics at New York University.

Coming to you every other Monday morning!  Available now on iTunes, Stitcher, Overcast, TuneIn, Google Play, (just search for Music of Reality) or in your browser.

If you like what you hear, please leave us a review through iTunes or whatever podcast app you prefer, or on our facebook page.  It helps.
